The BC Liberals can’t be trusted on ICBC
BC Liberal leader Andrew Wilkinson and Kamloops MLA Todd Stone have been telling us ICBC is broken and needs to be replaced. What they never say is that they and the BC Liberals were the ones who broke ICBC in the first place.
For 16 years, the BC Liberals ignored problems at ICBC. Follow the money. Private insurers and the legal industry filled Liberal coffers, costs spiralled out of control, and the rest of us paid the price. The NDP government was left with the unenviable and painful task of cleaning up the mess. It’s time for major changes, like the ones the BC NDP has announced.
By cutting out expensive legal costs from the system, drivers will save an average of 20% on their insurance, an average of $400 a year. And an enhanced system that provides better care for folks injured in an accident — without losing money to legal fees or costs.
Wilkinson and Stone will still probably say we need private insurance. What they won’t say is that they and the BC Liberals took more than $140,000 alone in donations from their friends in the insurance industry.
Make no mistake: private insurance will cost people more. Insurance rates are going through the roof in provinces with private insurance – Ontario has the highest rates in the country and in Alberta, rates are going up 30% this year.
I for one am glad to see ICBC working for regular British Columbians again – not just for lawyers and the BC Liberals’ insurance industry friends.
