The BC Recovery Benefit
The BC Recovery Benefit is a one-time, tax-free payment for eligible families, single parents or individuals. The benefit provides $1,000 for eligible families and single parents with a net income of up to $125,000 and $500 for eligible individuals with a net income of up to $62,500. A reduced benefit amount is available for eligible families and single parents with income up to $175,000 and for eligible individuals with net income up to $87,500.
An application process is required to enable the Province to provide the BC Recovery Benefit to eligible applicants as quickly as possible via a direct deposit to a financial institution account provided in the application. The application process ensures that each BC Recovery Benefit payment is made to the correct applicant and in the correct amount.
British Columbians receiving income assistance and disability assistance are eligible for the BC Recovery Benefit. As well, people on income assistance, disability assistance and low-income seniors receiving the BC Senior’s Supplement will also receive the additional BC Recovery Supplement of $150 per month from January 2021 to March 2021. The supplement will automatically be added to cheques issued in January, February and March 2021.
The Ministry of Finance is collaborating with the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty Reduction to ensure that eligible income and disability assistance clients receive the BC Recovery Benefit, including those who have not filed their 2019 personal income tax return or do not have an account with a financial institution to enable direct deposit. More information on this is expected in the near future.
All British Columbians, including seniors in long-term care facilities, can apply by phone at 1-833-882-0020, from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays) or online at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/economic-recovery/recovery-benefit.
